Marie Ringwald’s work is inspired by everyday, simply made buildings that are designed for working in, or holding things - such as warehouses, barns, sheds, Quonset Huts and storefronts. She uses paints, found + new wood, sheet metal + other construction materials. These carefully chosen and fabricated materials become part of the subject.
She has exhibited throughout the US as well as in South America + Europe. She was Professor at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in DC, where she taught from 1976 – 2004.
Born raised and educated in the Bronx, NY, she came to DC in 1971. Her studio is in Shaw.
